National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is an exciting, action-packed, council-level program focused on empowering youth with leadership skills and experience. Over six days, Scouts learn tools, techniques, and skills they can use in their home Scouting units, in school, and in all aspects of life.
Led by a talented, well-trained youth staff team, NYLT participants engage in group activities, games, presentations, and adventures that help them internalize leadership skills fast. They'll live in a model "temporary unit" environment — simulating how a patrol/troop works at its best.

Qualifications to Attend
- Scouts BSA: Must be 13 years old by the first day, at least First Class rank, completed Introduction to Leadership Skills for Troops (ILST), and have Scoutmaster recommendation.
- Venturers / Sea Scouts: Must be 14 years old (or 13 with completed 8th grade), attended ILSC / ILSS, and have Crew Advisor / adult leader recommendation.
Physical & Training Expectations
Participants will sleep in tents, move across trails, and engage in full-day Scouting activities. A current BSA health form (Parts A, B, & C) is required. There's also one overnight backpacking experience. Scouts should ideally have at least 4 nights of prior camping experience, with 2 of them in a patrol-style setting.
Uniform, Cost & Registration
- Uniform: Full field uniform required for Scouts BSA. Venturers and Sea Scouts follow their program guidelines. Fee includes 4 activity t-shirts; additional shirts may be ordered.
- Course Size: Limited to 48 participants. Waitlist option available once full.
- Cost: $275 total (includes $50 non-refundable registration, meals, and materials). If not fully paid 45 days before, increases to $300.
Refunds & Cancellation
Submit cancellation requests to the Course Director. The $50 registration is non-refundable. Cancellations less than 45 days before start may reduce refunds due to fixed incurred costs. Refunds are considered case-by-case.
